Explorer Scouts are the overall responsibility of our Scout District, Thameside Grand Union (TGU).

Our aim is to support young people in becoming:

Confident Individuals

Responsible Young People

Active Contributors to Society

Behaviour

While we expect our young people to get excited, especially when playing team games, we want them to listen to us when we explain things to the group and not chit chat at the same time. Otherwise, it can spoil things for others who can’t hear properly.

We understand that they are not at school, so we’re happy for them to get excited and enjoy themselves, but at the same time, we have to ensure that sessions don’t turn into chaos! Therefore it’s important for them to respect the requests of the leaders.

If you are concerned that your child might cause disruption, you are welcome to attend meetings and even better, help out with the other volunteers, so you can keep an eye on your child.

We won’t tolerate bullying and if we witness it, we will ask the child to sit out activities in the kitchen and tell their parent at the end of the meeting. We want all children to feel equal and accepted.

The Ranch is within the Chiswick House and Gardens car park alongside the A4, backing onto Park Sports. We have been based here since 1952, but the Group has been operating since 1932!

We started in a classroom at Belmont School, moved to the playground in The Ranch. When the Council wanted the playground back they gave us our present site at a peppercorn rent of £1 p.a. Parents of the Scout Group moved the building by hand from Belmont Rd to its present location. Later the kitchen areas were added, then the Leaders room and what are now store rooms and lastly the canopy over the backdoor.

Interested in joining the fun?

We are not always able to offer an immediate place for your child, but we are happy to add their name to our waiting list and will get in touch if a suitable vacancy becomes available.
