Volunteering
All of our leaders are volunteers, either because they have children in the Group, or just because they enjoy it and feel they have something to offer.
There’s no doubting there’s a lot to be gained from volunteering, not least just seeing the joy on children’s faces. But it’s also an excellent way to experience being with young people – perhaps you have small children that might want to join the Group in due course; perhaps you are or want to be a teacher; perhaps you are thinking of adopting a child; or maybe you just want to boost your own confidence being involved in leading.
Help at Section nights
Parents are always welcome to help at Section meetings, either on a regular or occasional basis. Many section night activities are divided into four groups of say six to eight children and it’s good to have a least one adult to each group to help supervise the activity. You don’t have to wear uniform! If you’d like to do this, speak to your Section Leader to discuss or contact the Group Scout Leader.
Help maintaining our Ranch
We organise periodic maintenance sessions using at a weekend in the school holidays. No skills required! Typically, we sweep outside, occasionally paint, clean the hall, kitchen and toilets, replace bulbs, tighten table fixings. We normally allow for 2-3 hours, but any contribution of time is most welcome!
Help running a special activity
As parents, you may have special skills, hobbies or even an unusual occupation, which would be of interest at one of our Section nights. Let your child’s Leader know if you have something to offer as a one off activity or talk.
Help at camps
Camps are held over a weekend, normally Friday evening to Sunday morning. These are always run by Leaders, but parents are welcome to volunteer once they have been CRB checked under the Occasional Helper scheme.
